Hi there, neighbors and friends! This is our first community blog post, and we’re thrilled to have you here. I'm Dwight Burs, President of the Franklin Hill Tenant Association, and I want to personally welcome you to what we hope will become a vibrant space for everyone in our community to connect, share, and engage.
Franklin Hill, located in Dorchester on Shandon Road off Franklin Hill Road, is more than just a place—it’s a community full of heart, history, and potential. We’re a neighborhood of families, elders, youth, and dreamers. We’ve faced challenges, but we’ve also built resilience. And now, we’re on a mission to make Franklin Hill stronger, safer, and more united than ever.
The Franklin Hill Tenant Association exists to uplift every resident. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a thriving, inclusive, and supportive environment for all. We advocate for better housing conditions, organize events that bring joy and resources, and build partnerships that open doors for our community.
We believe that every voice matters. Whether you’ve lived here for 30 years or just moved in last month, you are part of this story. And we want you to be part of the solution.
We’re more than just tenants—we’re a family. We check on our elders, we celebrate our youth, and we show up for each other. But we can’t do it with just six or seven people. We need dozens. We need you.
This blog is your space. A place to speak up, share what’s happening, and help shape the future of Franklin Hill. If you’re hosting a block party, organizing a prayer circle, or launching a youth program—tell us. If you’re facing an issue with management, safety, or services—tell us. If you have a message for the Mayor, the Congresswoman, or the State Rep—this is your platform.
This season, we’re rolling out several initiatives to meet urgent needs and build community pride:
Behind every initiative is a real person. Like Maria, a senior who had to choose between groceries and her heart medication. Or Tasha, a single mom who wrapped her kids in blankets last winter because she couldn’t afford coats. Or Malik, a teenager who found his voice designing flyers for our events. These stories are why we do what we do. And we need your help to keep going.
We’re calling on every resident, partner, and supporter to step up. Here’s how:
We welcome input from everyone—residents, officials, and partners. If the Mayor has something to say, we’ll post it. If our Congresswoman wants to speak to our community, we’ll amplify it. If a local nonprofit is hosting a job fair or resource drive, we’ll help spread the word.
This blog is not just ours—it’s yours.
We are a strong community. We are proud, persistent, and full of promise. But we need more hands, more voices, and more unity. We need to show the world what Franklin Hill stands for—and what we’re building together.
So come join us. Let’s talk about our neighborhood. Let’s celebrate our wins and confront our challenges. Let’s build something lasting.
This is just the beginning.
With love and leadership,
Dwight Burs
